FUNDING POLICY
THE FOUNDATION PROVIDES GRANTS TO OFFICIALLY RECOGNISED CHARITABLE ORGANISATIONS WITHIN THE UNITED KINGDOM ONLY IN RESPECT OF:
Relief of persons in need, hardship or distress by reason of disaster or as a consequence of social or economic circumstance.Provision/Maintenance of care and accommodation for the sick and elderly.Promotion of education - in particular within the Derbyshire region.Environmental Conservation/Preservation/Protection/Improvement - in particular where this would encourage the provision of access by members of the general public.
It is the trustees' present policy to assist smaller organisations with core costs.
WITHIN THESE CATEGORIES, THE TRUSTEES DO NOT USUALLY MAKE GRANTS FOR:
Organisations that operate primarily outside the UK or for the benefit of non-UK residents.Places of worship seeking funds for restoration or upgrade of facilities.Students requesting a grant for tertiary education or a gap year.Educational organisations based outside the Derbyshire region – although the trustees may chose to do so.Museums, historical or heritage organisations.Funding of palliative care.Organisations without a Charity Commission registration.Organisations that have not been operating for more than 12 months.Animal welfare organisations whose primary purpose is not conservation of the environment.Bodies affiliated to or a local "branch" of a national organisation, even when registered as a separate charity - if you are unsure whether you would fall within this category, please submit a query using the Contact Us section of this website.
PLEASE NOTE: APPLICATIONS MAY ONLY BE MADE TO OUR SMALL GRANTS PROGRAMME. THESE GRANTS RANGE FROM £500 - £2,500
The Trustees prefer to support smaller charities since modest donations are capable of providing potentially greater benefit in such cases. Consequently, it is unlikely that organisations with an annual income in excess of £750,000 will be provided with a grant under the small grants programme.The Trustees are happy to contribute to core operating costs rather than to a specific project where the funding will be legally “restricted” - applications in this latter category are, however, not excluded.The Trustees are unlikely to provide multiple grants to the same charity in a 12 month period.The Trustees have limited funds available and much regret that they are unable to help every eligible organisation that applies for a grant. Meetings of the Trustees are usually held quarterly, in the second or third week of January, May, July and October. For periods in which there is an associated window for accepting applications for the small grants programme the deadline for the receipt of applications is approximately 6 weeks prior to the subsequent meeting. Any applications not received by the deadline will be held over for consideration at the following meeting.The Foundation uses the Application Form available in the Applications section of this website. If you wish to be considered for a grant but are unable to submit an application using this method but would like to be considered please submit your reasons via the Contact Us form and where reasonable, alternative methods of submission may be arranged.The Trustees are unlikely to approve grants to applications with incomplete or inconsistent financial information.Further correspondence is sent only to applicants for whom a grant is approved. If you have not received a cheque by the middle of the month following the quarterly meeting of Trustees, you should assume that your application was not successful on that occasion. You may wish to contact the Secretary (via the Contact Us section of this website) if you want confirmation of this outcome. However, please note that the Foundation does not comment on the reasons why an application was unsuccessful.
